HowBurnedOut ("we", "our", or "us") operates howburnedout.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We have designed HowBurnedOut with privacy as a default: your quiz answers never leave your device.
1. Information we do NOT collect
- We do not require account registration or collect your name or email address.
- We do not store your quiz answers or burnout scores on any server.
- We do not build individual user profiles.
- We do not sell your data to any third party.
2. How the quiz works
All quiz processing happens entirely in your browser. Your answers are scored locally using JavaScript and results are passed via URL parameters to the results page — no data is transmitted to our servers at any point.
To allow you to resume an in-progress quiz if you close your browser, your current progress (answers and question index) is temporarily saved to your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is cleared when you complete or restart the quiz. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
3. Cookies and analytics
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve personalized ads based on your prior browsing behavior across websites. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings or by using the NAI opt-out tool.
4. Third-party links and affiliate content
HowBurnedOut may display affiliate links to third-party services such as BetterHelp. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase or sign up, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend services we believe are relevant and helpful based on your assessment results.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service you visit.
5. Children's privacy
HowBurnedOut is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top. Continued use of HowBurnedOut after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
